Save the Date Cards (PrintingPress)

If your heart is aflutter, check out our PrintingPress design. A duo of aqua butterflies are flying off the top left corner of a White A7 card. We wrote the prospective bride & groom’s names in gray using the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2 in bold. We used the Arial font in all lowercase letters for the rest of the text, writing the words “…are getting married!” in aqua to coordinate with the butterflies. Since the butterflies run along the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We used the same fonts on the outside of the Pewter A7 envelopes and lined the envelopes in Teal. For the finishing touch include coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Our PrintingPress Platinum design offers a bold, modern look. We started by adding a floating image of a solid square of saffron to a White A7 card. We stretched the image so that it filled the bottom two thirds of the card, leaving a white area at the top. Next, we used a floating text box to add the bride’s name in the same saffron using the Times New Roman font in all uppercase letters. Then we added the groom’s name in a separate floating text box using the Arial font in all lowercase letters. We set the horizontal alignment for the text box to Justified and set the text color to off white so that it remains opaque even though the text box’s Make white transparent setting is enabled. For tips on this technique, see the Experts Only note in the April 2004 issue. We used another floating text box to add the details using the Arial font in all lowercase letters. We used a final floating text box to add the date using the Arial Black font at 69 points at the bottom of the card. Since the saffron runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the White envelopes in Slate and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Save the Date Cards (Platinum)
Save the Date Cards (Extreme)

For a clean, colorful look, try our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design. We started by adding the couple’s names in a floating text box at the top of a White 4.5 x 6.5 inch custom cut card. We used the Arial font in brick red for the groom’s name, and the Times New Roman font in blue with the Italic style for the bride’s name. We added the wedding date in gray using the Arial font. We decreased the line spacing to nestle the groom’s name against the bride’s name. Next, we added a blue custom border to the text box and set the border’s shape to AccuCut A7 Frame (NC674SJ) - landscape. We set the Line Type to Dotted (adjacent to fill) and set the spacing to 3 for an airy look. We adjusted the card’s margins so that the main text area begins below the floating text box, and then used the Vertically Justify Text setting to evenly space the information. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card to a Sky 4.75 x 6.75 inch custom cut card, and then mounted the set to a Slate A7 card. We lined the White envelopes in Sky and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Here comes the bride
Save the date cards are fun, but wedding invitations are definitely our favorite! We’ve created some gorgeous new designs that can be customized for nearly any color scheme. Whether you’re having a formal evening affair or a relaxed afternoon gathering, these new designs are beautiful, affordable and easy to print.

For a traditional design with a modern update, try our PrintingPress design, featuring a Complete Pocket Invitation in the A8 Landscape (pointed flap) size. We started by adding a pair of dark purple flying birds to the upper right corner of the Ecru invitation card. Then we used the Arial font in gray using all lowercase letters to add the invitation text. We added the bride and grooms’ names in dark purple using the Times New Roman font with the size set to 52 points. We separated the names with the word “and” written in gray using the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2. On the next line, we wrote the

couple’s last names separated by tab characters to center them below the first names. We used the Isabelle font to add the wedding location at the bottom of the card. For a modern twist, we used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation to the Metallic Eggplant backing card and then adhered the set to the Ecru Pocket Folder. For a more traditional invitation, use Matte Navy or Matte Slate instead. We used the same type styles and colors for the Ecru directions insert card, and added the birds to the Ecru response set. We added seals to the Pocket Folder by using the 4-up feature to print four 3.5 x 2.5 inch seals onto Ecru A7 cards. We separated the seals using a rotary trimmer, adhered the seals to Metallic Eggplant 3.75 x 2.75 inch custom cut cards, and then mounted the set onto the Pocket Folder flap. We lined the Ecru envelopes in Metallic Eggplant and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Wedding Invitations (PrintingPress)

If you’re feeling light hearted, then our PrintingPress Platinum design is just right for you. We added whimsical illustrations to each printed piece in the Complete Pocket Invitation in the A8 Portrait (no flap) size. For even more fun, we turned the Pocket Folder on its side so that it opens sideways like a book. We added a charming teal wedding cake to the upper left corner of the White invitation card. The cake topper is a frame, which we filled with the couple’s new shared initial. We used a floating text box to add the initial in gray using the Erin font. We adjusted the card’s margins to center the invitation text on the right side of the card. We used the Arial font in gray for the invitation text, and in teal and all capital letters for the bride and groom’s names. We used a double-stick tape gun to

adhere the invitation to the Teal backing card and then mounted the set onto the Metallic Arctic Blue Pocket Folder. We added a signpost decorated in flowers to the White directions insert card, and used floating text boxes to add the couple’s new initial and the words “Walker Wedding” to the sign. We added a festive bottle of champagne to the White response card, and personalized the champagne bottle with the couple’s new initial. We used the 4-up feature to print four 3.5 x 2.5 inch seals onto White A7 cards. We used a rotary trimmer to separate the seals and then mounted them to 3 x 5.125 inch custom cut Teal cards. We mounted the set onto the right side of front of the closed Pocket Folder. We lined the Metallic Arctic Blue envelopes in Teal and added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps. Since our envelopes are metallic, we used our laser printer to address the envelopes.

For a fun, contemporary invitation, check out our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design. We created a layered invitation using multiple layers of card stock. First, we created a colorful honeycomb pattern using PrintingPress Extreme 5.0’s custom pattern creator. For tips on creating a multicolor pattern yourself, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We used the custom background feature to fill the background of a White Square card with the pattern to create our backing card. Since the pattern runs all the way to the edge of the card, we tricked our printer and printed the backing card onto a full 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of card stock using our printer’s borderless printing feature (with the printer’s card size set to 8.5 x 11 inches). Then we used a rotary trimmer to

cut the card down to a 6.25 x 6.25 inch square. We used the shape tool to add a few of the honeycomb elements to the invitation. We used a floating text box to add the bride and grooms’ names in green and blue using the Arial font alongside the shapes. We added the rest of the invitation text in the main text area in blue using the Arial font in all lowercase letters. We used PrintingPress Extreme 5.0’s label feature to print six of the 3.25 x 3.25 inch invitations onto a full 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of White card stock. We used a rotary trimmer to separate the invitation cards and then used a double-stick tape gun to mount the invitation to a Sky 3.5 x 3.5 inch custom cut card. Next, we mounted the pair onto the patterned backing card. We used our laser printer to print onto the Metallic Clover Square envelopes, and lined the envelopes in Sky. To complete the look, we added coordinating Custom Image StationeryStamps.

Extreme Tip

Pitter patterns...
The custom pattern tool in PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 lets you create an infinite array of custom patterns in any color scheme. This month, we’ve created a complex honeycomb pattern that you can customize to your own color scheme in a snap. One of the things that we love most about this pattern is how the shapes fit together like a puzzle. You can use this technique and start from scratch and create your own advanced patterns following these steps.

We started our pattern by filling the background of the custom pattern in green and setting the shape that is repeated in the pattern to Hexagon.

Next, we adjusted the size of the hexagon to make it bigger. Then we decreased the spacing to make the hexagons nearly touch, creating the honeycomb effect.

Custom Pattern 2

Then we set the shape’s Center type to Hollow and increased the values for the Width, Outline and Inner settings. We set the Fill Color to blue and the Line to white and then played around with the thickness settings until we liked the way the pattern looked.

Before you click on the OK button to apply your pattern, type a name in the Pattern name section. This will make it easier for you to locate your pattern again in the My Patterns folder in the future.
